Peter founded Diamond Geriatrics in 1996. He has worked in all areas of eldercare, including inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, nursing homes, community case management, and assessment units. He is a published author and a frequent lecturer and speaker to business, the general public, and non profits. Peter’s experience in the health care industry includes twenty seven years as a Social Worker in acute care, geriatric medicine and psychiatry, nursing homes and hospitals. He has worked as a case manager for the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, provided Employee Assistance Programme services, and worked with several community Social Service Agencies. He has also acted as the national eldercare consultant for a major EAP company.
Peter been described by his clients as extraordinarily caring, patient, and intuitive. As one client said to him, “More than anything else, what you have given me is peace of mind.”
The development of Diamond Geriatrics was the result of Peter’s direct experience with clients encountering gaps in services and the need for information, guidance, and advocacy. His work within the public and private health care system have demonstrated to him the incredible lack of higher level and more intense service options. He was one of the first in Canada to begin approaching business and the financial sector to discuss the need for multi-disciplinary and holistic approaches to working with older people and their families and caregivers.
In conjunction with his work with Diamond Geriatrics, Peter is also a counsellor for individuals, couples, and families. He has expertise in the areas of addictions, anxiety, depression, social skills, sexuality, aging, chronic illness, grief and loss, and couples issues.
